Animal Kingdom: are we all on board?

Suave New Film Alert! Tough-as-you-like Aussie crime flick Animal Kingdom parks up in UK cinemas later this month, which gives you ample time to get up to speed and nod knowingly when the critics start saying how it's this year's A Prophet, but with worse accents and a greater threat of those outhouse snakes that you're obliged to allude to any time Australia is mentioned.

Here's all you need to know to get you started:

1. This gritty tale of betrayal, family ties, blurred morality and all-out conflict bagged the World Cinema prize at last year's Sundance Festival, which is like the indie film Olympics.
2. Jacki Weaver's performance as mob matriach Smurf has earned her considerable nom-props from both the Oscar and Golden Globe panels.
3. It stars Guy Pearce, whose presence alone offers some kind of reliable quality-control tag.
4. Quentin Tarantino declared it his third favourite film of 2010, ahead of True Grit and The King's Speech (though behind Toy Story 3 and The Social Network).

Let's finish off by watching the trailer, shall we?
